Exhibition of outsider and contemporary art "From line to spectrum" and festival of mental health PSYFEST
On September 20, the 5th mental health festival PSYFEST starts, of which we have been constant partners since the inception of the project. At the same time, we are opening an already beloved by the viewer exhibition of outsider art in the Volgograd Museum of Fine Arts.

However, thanks to the collaboration with curators Varvara Shilikhina and Ksenia Ivanova, this year visitors will be treated to an unexpected turn. The exhibition "From Line to Spectrum", in addition to the works of outsider artists, will be supplemented by the most relevant contemporary artists.

The festival agenda calls for the manifestation and acceptance of all forms of diversity, and the organizers of the exhibition are also striving to move away from linearity to versatility, from plane to volume. It is important for us to show the viewer that "strange" art and contemporary art coexist quite well in a single reality and are capable of enriching each other, erasing unnecessary boundaries. The exhibition metaphorically examines the integration of people into society and societies "into people", challenging the rigid dichotomies of insider and outsider, normality and divergence.

The expressive exhibition, dedicated to those who exist and create beyond the generally accepted boundaries of the art world, will feature works by 11 outsider artists, residents of "Outsiderville" (Andrey Galizini, Natalia Pukhonina, Valentin Simankov, Albina Chernavina, Ilya Tsarev, Nika Smirnova, Ilya Karpushkin, Yura Zeleny, Linda Iblieva, Liza Khudyakova and Yujjang) and 7 contemporary artists (Alisa Kochkina, Ivan Khimin, Marina Yarosh, Andrey Kuzmin, Viktor Semayev, Ekaterina Zhilina and Tema Nebrodovsky).

The exhibition "From Line to Spectrum" demonstrates the concept of spectrum, highlighting the profound beauty and complexity of the nonlinear manifestations of the human mind. Here, art becomes a vehicle for exploring the fluidity of identity and experience, demonstrating how different neurocognitive perspectives contribute to the richness of our collective cultural tapestry. The curators' goal is to illuminate the multifaceted nature of human experience, inviting viewers to rethink social norms and mental diversity to create a more inclusive and compassionate world.

September 20, 18:00 - opening of the exhibition "From Line to Spectrum"
September 21, 22, 12:00 - curatorial tours

IDYLLEREI`22. Outsider Art Festival. Nuremberg, Germany
We simply do not have time to share with you the cycle of events. We have a world premiere again!

July 22-24 "Outsiderville" took part in a large inclusive outsider art festival IDYLLEREI`22 in Nuremberg. Among the studios from Belgium, Netherlands, Sweden and Germany, we diversified the exposition with Russian self-taught artists. This time the organizers were interested in the works of Valentin Simankov (St. Petersburg), Dmitry Noga (Izhevsk), Misha Plesen (Moscow), Ilya Tsarev (St. Petersburg), Andrey Vavilov (Yaroslavl), Albina Chernavina (Volgograd), Sergey Fedulov and Alexander Savchenko (St. Petersburg).

A total of about 1000 people saw works by a hundred artists and also experienced the street theater of the Italian theater group Teatro Due Mondi with two different plays. Already on Friday, the musicians of Vollgas Combo and Vollgas Connected thrilled the audience. There was more music in the program by Stattwerk, an inclusive music duo with its own spherical sound range. On Saturday evening, Katlanowski Express heated up the visitors with songs from the Balkans.

The film program offered very different contributions: "Planet Hora" by Theater Hora from Zurich, the Western film-the Western opera "Die Entscheidung" from Bad Dürkheim and the silent documentary "Kunst kommt aus dem Schnabel wie er gewachsen ist" by Sabine Herpich from Berlin. Our indispensable partner Dr. Thomas Röske (Director of the Prinzhorn Collection Heidelberg) and Pierre Muylle (artist and exhibition organizer from Belgium) spoke at the lecturium, as well as a panel discussion with the artist Stanley Schulten, the curator Lisa Inckmann (director 2x2 Forum for Outsider Art and Kunsthaus Kannen, Münster), exhibition director Lutz Krutein and the two previously mentioned extended the event in an equally entertaining and theoretical way. The final event "Die Nudelpest" by Theater Dreamteam met a full house in the in the Z-Bau gallery.

A great value of the festival was the meeting of the audience with handicap and the artists of Outsider Art. Many conversations took place and new friendships were made - among the visitors, the invited guests and the organizers.

And we hope to come with the residents in 2024!

Exhibition "ArtStream. A Breath of Air" at the Museum of Contemporary Art ArtMuza
Only 3 days - May 30, 31 and June 1 - in the Museum of Contemporary Art "ArtMuse" the exhibition "ArtPotok ("Art Stream"). A Breath of Air" - the peak point of the educational project "ArtPotok ("Art Stream"). New generation of professionals. Art practice and art therapy in psychiatry", which since October 2021 has been implemented jointly by The Union for Mental Health and ANO "Outsiderville".

The exposition presents works by participants of art studios and workshops of psychiatric institutions, boarding schools, rehabilitation centers and public organizations, on the basis of which, since the beginning of the year, students of medical, social and cultural universities in Moscow and St. Petersburg - implemented their projects using advanced methods of art therapy and artistic practice in working with people with mental disabilities, contributed to the self-expression and rehabilitation of the wards using a variety of approaches and relying on creative resources.

Today, art therapy, which is widely represented in Russia, and free-standing individual support for outsider artists is already an important component of the rehabilitation cycle. Therefore, socio-cultural and inclusive programs based on cultural institutions are the most important link in the socio-rehabilitation cycle, as well as a great resource not only for the wards themselves, but also for society and culture as a whole.

Expositions of the works of self-taught authors, both within the framework of destigmatizing projects and exhibitions of outsider art, attract the public and experts with the boundless power of artistic expression, sprouting from the depths of "madness", the unique empirical experience and worldview of the outsider artist.

Already in September, the exhibition "ArtStream. A Breath of Air" will reopen in an expanded format and will be available to visitors of "ArtMuse" for two months.

The "Art on the Roadside" edition has been released!
The long-awaited edition "Art on the Roadside" has been released - about the work of outsider and self-taught artists, as well as about inclusive practices in Russia.

The publication is formed from the materials of scientific readings in memory of Ksenia Bohemskaya, held annually at the State Institute of Art Studies and contains, among other things, an article from the founder of "Outsiderville" - Olga Fominikh.

The book has been in preparation since 2015 and during this time has gone through many trials: from finding funding, changing three publishers through a pandemic to today's realities... It is valuable that the collection includes the last text of Alexander Migunov, Doctor of Philosophy, which he sent shortly before the fatal operation.

It was important to accumulate the knowledge of different specialists about the interpretations of the work of outsider artists at the beginning of the 21st century. The collection turned out to be voluminous and informative - as many as 400 pages!

We thank the candidate of art criticism, senior researcher of the folklore and folk art sector of the State Institute of Fine Arts - Nadezhda Musyankova for the painstaking work and its outstanding result!

The book has already been presented at the festival on Palace Square in St. Petersburg, and also went on sale in the bookstores "Moscow" and "Falanster".

Premiere! "Valentin Simankov. UnFormatted". A film by Georgy Kudryashov
Valentin Simankov is a legendary man, a peculiar symbol of St. Petersburg. For many years, he could often be found on the Griboedov Canal next to the Savior-on-Blood, selling easily recognizable photo collages for a penny, then - in different parts of the city, where he avoided the pressure of commerce and corruption by street stallers. His house is littered with undeveloped films, but sometimes he print it, using old photo paper, which was gift to him once in huge quantities by the "comrade from FSB".

Valentin is an extremely elusive artist... If earlier he could be regularly seen on the central streets of the city selling his photo collages, now he leads a hermit life. However, to our great luck, he treats us with special awe and respect. It took a lot of effort to persuade him to appear in a documentary, but we managed to find a way to approach the city's photo legend.

We met the future director of the film, Georgy Kudryashov, on the set of a story about the exhibition of works by Russian outsider artists "Svobodnye²" ("Free²") during the Volgograd festival "Psy Fest" for the State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company "Volgograd". We spent the whole day together and Georgy was inspired by our project and its amazing residents. Already in the autumn he came to us in St. Petersburg and in 3 days, not without incidents, the necessary material was filmed.

We invite you to watch the movie!

In a short time of collecting applications, the initially planned number of student participants increased by more than 2 times (from 150 to more than 300) - and this indicates an unprecedented demand for educational programs in this area. Among the partners are leading universities, non-profit organizations, medical, social and cultural institutions.

The course of study will be held in several stages: the theoretical part, the field stage (acquaintance with the work of rehabilitation departments and art studios, the creation of art studios or the development of new areas of rehabilitation work) and the final part - the final exhibition, at the opening which will present an overview of successful practical results of the students, a ceremony of awarding certificates and certificates of advanced training, as well as rewarding outsider artists who appeared during the field stage.

Due to an interdisciplinary approach and top lecturers/experts involved in the project, the theoretical part will give participants a complete three-dimensional understanding of the entire cycle of social rehabilitation support for people with mental disabilities: the basics of psychiatry and psychotherapy, the non-profit sector and rehabilitation programs, art therapy and outsider art.

"Beyond the Establishment" Exhibition at the Russian Museum
On December 1, the Marble Palace of the Russian Museum opens an exhibition of original artists "Beyond The Establishment". The exhibition will feature works by six contemporary non-professional artists with mental disabilities and (or) psychiatric experience. For all the social significance of this project, the Museum's first large-scale attempt to emphasize the aesthetic value of the works is in the foreground.

The exhibition features artworks of Outsiderville residents - Sergey Fedulov (graphics, painting) and Alexander Savchenko (painting), as well as drawings and objects by Alexey Sakhnov, sculptures by Alexey Barov, graphic artist Yulia Kosulnikova and Ilgar Nadzhafov.

Such authors express their special worldview through a saving act of creativity, which fits perfectly into the strategy of contemporary art, where the factor of specialized education has long ceased to be a determining factor. First of all, these artists are distinguished by their lack of involvement in the processes of existence of the art community, the establishment with its market strategies, current discourse and other aspects.

More information

A comprehensive educational program is planned within the framework of the exhibition: lectures by experts in the field of contemporary / original art, discussions with specialists, classes within the framework of the exposition with residents of social institutions, people with disabilities, meetings with artists.

The curators tried to make the exhibition accessible to visitors with different needs: they recorded a video guide in Russian sign language, an audio guide with audio descriptions, prepared a tactile map of the exhibition, and presented an easy-to-read explication.

Outsider art exhibition "Strange Art". Kirov
On September 25, 2021, a two-week Russian outsider artists exhibition "Strange Art" will open at the Kirov Art Ingeneerium. The art project is of particular importance for the city community, as it is the first out-of-hospital exhibition of outsider art in 16 years and the second in the history of Kirov.

A pilot exhibition of creativity of people with psychiatric experience was held in the Vasnetsovs` brothers Museum back in 2005... It was a private initiative of enthusiastic doctors and art therapists from the Ganinsky hospital, which was supported by outstanding collectors and devotees of outsider art from other cities (Vladimir Abakumov and the Museum of Outsider Art in Moscow, which, unfortunately, was closed in 2010 year and the INYE Collection Vladimir Gavrilov in Yaroslavl).

During this time, many projects have been organized throughout the country aimed at legitimizing and institutionalizing Russian outsider art: from psycho-educational and socio-cultural ones dedicated to people with mental disabilities and their role in culture and society, to full-fledged artistic ones. The fact that previously unnoticed marginal art received a pass into the walls of museums, galleries, biennials, auction houses, etc. is an indicator of its recognition not only by the academic community, but also by society in common. A significant role in this was played by the activities of public organizations and individual experts who take the liberty of fighting the stigma and mythology around psychiatry, as well as social initiatives and the growing keen interest of the progressive public.

As part of the "Strange Art exhibition", viewers will learn about the world-famous legend of Soviet art brut Alexander Lobanov, see examples of naive art, get acquainted with the history of the formation of the first hospital collections and masterpieces of "canonical" outsider artists and discover the names of young representatives of Russian outsider art. The exposition presents works by residents of ANO "Outsiderville", the INYE collection, as well as the famous Kirov self-taught artist - Andrey Kolevatov.

The exhibition is dedicated to the all-Russian Scientific and Practical Conference "Biopsychosocial approach of V.M. Bekhterev in modern psychiatry", dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Kirov Regional Clinical Psychiatric Hospital named after academician V.M. Bekhterev and organized with the support of the Atomic Energy Information Center, National Medical Research Center for Psychiatry and Neurology V.M. Bekhterev" Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, "Russian Society of Psychiatrists", Kirov State Medical University, the INYE collection and ANO Outsiderville.

Curators:
Olga Fominikh is a public figure, founder of ANO "Outsiderville" (St. Petersburg) - a project to support people with mental disabilities and outsider artists in Russia.

Vladimir Gavrilov - psychiatrist-psychotherapist, vice-president of S.I.P.E.-A.T., creator and curator of the INYE collection (Yaroslavl).

Mental Health Festival "PSY people Fest". Volgograd
From September 3 to October 3, 2021, the second PSY People Fest will be held in Volgograd. Its purpose: to bring together professionals, society and users of mental health care and support in the discussion of issues related to mental health.

The events will target the professional community - psychiatrists, psychologists, psychotherapists and other mental health professionals - and a wider audience.

The festival's activity can be divided into three areas:

Educational direction.
The events will be aimed at educational work, explaining the mechanisms of development of mental disorders, the manifestation of their symptoms, about where and what kind of help can be obtained. One of the main tasks of this area is to reduce tension when meeting with a person with a mental disorder and destigmatization of mental disorders.

The main event is an exhibition of works by outsider artists, curated by the project "Outsiderville" from St. Petersburg and the INYE ("OTHERS") collection from Yaroslavl.

In addition, there will be informal meetings with psychiatrists and film screenings about the life of people with mental disorders and their interaction with society and society with them.

Scientific and practical direction.
Designed for mental health professionals: psychologists, psychiatrists, psychotherapists. However, everyone can attend the events.

The main event of the direction is the VII interregional scientific and practical conference for specialists working in the field of mental health protection "Psychiatry - the science of the brain and soul."

In addition to the plenary session, several sections are planned at the conference: clinic and therapy of mental disorders, psychotherapy of anxiety, psychiatry for therapists, neurologists, cardiologists, questions of psychopharmacology, narcology, child psychiatry. The peculiarity of this conference will be that it will for the first time include a section on philosophy and religion. Thus, on one site it will be possible to discuss the problem of the psyche from different points of view.

Also, master classes will be organized within the framework of the conference.

Treatment and rehabilitation direction. For people diagnosed with mental illness and their relatives. Free lectures, diagnostic events and consultations of psychologists are planned here for everyone.

Exhibition of works by outsider artists Svobodnye² ("Free²") as part of the PSY people Fest in Volgograd
From September 3 to October 3, 2021, at the I. I. Mashkov State Museum of Fine Arts, within the framework of the city festival PSY people Fest, for the first time within the walls of the museum, an exhibition of works by Russian outsider artists Svobodnye² ("Free²") will be held.

Within the framework of the Svobodnye² ("Free²") exhibition and events timed to coincide with it, viewers will learn about the world famous legend of Soviet art brut Alexander Lobanov, see examples of naive art, get acquainted with the history of the first hospital collections and masterpieces of "canonical" outsider artists, discover the names of young representatives Russian outsider of art, learn about hoaxes and fakes in the art market, including on the example of the sensational story of the never-existed artist "Foma Jaremtschuk", whose story unexpectedly brought researchers to Volgograd ...

The first successful but chamber exhibition of outsider art "InsideOut" in Volgograd was organized by Yuri Osadshy in 2017 and found refuge in Loft1890. The event caused a serious resonance, the interest of the media and the city public. This inspired hope for the opportunity to repeat the art project, but with an expanded audience and a program of events. The plan was realized already in 2021. During this time, many psychoeducational and art projects were organized, dedicated to people with mental disabilities and their role in culture and society. The fact that a previously imperceptible marginal art received a pass into the walls of a museum institution is a sign of its legitimization and recognition by the academic community. A significant role in this was played by the activities of public organizations and individual experts who take the liberty of fighting stigma and mythology around psychiatry, as well as socio-cultural initiatives and the growing lively interest of the progressive public.

The exposition line will appear as a mesmerizing sequence of canvases, lined up in a certain plot. A voluminous retrospective of the development of outsider art in Russia with a look into the present will unfold before the viewer. Unlike most classical exhibitions, we will invite visitors to move away from contemplation and discover hidden motives, internal collisions, a passionate impulse for self-determination and spiritual search.

Curators:

Olga Fominikh - public figure, founder of the "Outsiderville" (St. Petersburg)

On May 30 and 31, Moscow will host two lectures "The Phenomenon of Outsider Art" by Vladimir Gavrilov and Olga Fominikh. On May 30 we are waiting for you in the Moscow store "Vo Ves Golos" ("In Loud Voice"), and on the 31st - in the Library n.a. N.A. Nekrasov.

We will talk about the history of the formation of the first hospital "collections of oddities", the emergence of interest in marginal creativity and the legitimization of outsider art in Russia. The dialogue of talent and "madness", the relationship and difference between outsider art and art-therapeutic expression, the peculiarities of sociocultural work relying on creative resources will be touched upon.

Let's learn more about the fate of the legendary outsider artist Alexander Lobanov, who lived for half a century in a psychiatric hospital, who created amazing "pictures" and "ceremonial" photos ...

Also at the lecture you will see a chamber exhibition of works from the collections INYE and Outsiderville and the documentary OTHERS of the RT-Documentary channel (2021).

Nizhny Novgorod exhibition of outsider artists "Borders of Misunderstanding" + conference
We are going to the exhibition of outsider artists "Borders of misUnderstanding" in the Nizhny Novgorod State Art Museum and the scientific and practical conference "Mental Disorders. Modern possibilities of treatment and rehabilitation ".

The exposition is available for visitors from May 15 to May 30 and is organized by the 20-year anniversary of the NROOOOI "New Opportunities" with the participation of: the Ministry of Health, four state psychiatric institutions and 800 good deeds "Lower 800".

It is a great honor for us to be invited to the first exhibition of outsider art on a high-profile state site (the National Art Museum is also famous for the international festival of naive art "New day"). This is the result of many years of painstaking work by "New Opportunities", developing a long-term model of social and psychological care for adults with mental health problems - outside a psychiatric institution and providing support at various levels: psychological, creative, labor, family support.

With the exhibition "The Boundaries of misUnderstanding", the curators want to show that authors with mental characteristics are the same artists, whose aesthetic power of their creative works is no less convincing than the works of prominent representatives of contemporary art. The exposition presents more than 100 works: painting, graphics, photography, textiles, ceramics. By the way, among the authors are the works of our two residents - Sergey Es and Ksenia Micryze. Congratulations!

Round table "Mental health and the media. Who to listen to?". Within the framework of the XVII Congress of Russian Psychiatrists
As part of the XVII Congress of Russian Psychiatrists on May 17 at 17:00 in the bookstore | lecture hall "Vo Ves Golos" ("In Loud Voice") will host a round table "Mental health and the media. Whom to listen to? "

In recent years, dramatic changes have affected the information field and access to information. The Internet and widespread digitalization were added to the usual sources, which absolutely changed the speed of obtaining and disseminating information, including about mental health. Currently, these issues are covered by doctors, psychologists, coaches, patients, journalists, etc. Although it has become easier for the public to learn about mental disorders and how to help, this has led to a flood of information space, including unscientific data, dangerous advice and stigmatizing information.

We need an active dialogue between the professional community and representatives of the mass media and the blogosphere to jointly form a "healthy" information field on mental health issues.

During the round table, representatives of the professional community, patients and the media will express their views on the current situation and possible joint actions aimed at improving the quality of information on mental health provided in the information space.

"UnderFrames". Exhibition of works by outsider artists, residents of Outsiderville
From 13 to 27 May, an exhibition of works by outsider artists, residents of the Outsiderville project, with the expressive name "UnderFrames". The project is timed to coincide with the 17th Congress of Russian Psychiatrists (May 15-17) and the round table "Mental health and the media. Whom to listen to? ".

Despite the fact that outsider art in Russia takes an increasingly confident position in the context of contemporary art, there are still many myths, pseudoscientific interpretations and stigmatization around its representatives. Moreover, speculative interpretations are inherent not only to the unprepared public, but also to the professional environment: specialists in the field of psychiatry or art critics.

In this vein, we sorely lack both psychoeducational projects and pure art experiments. We do not seek to create a canonical image of an outsider artist and do not undertake to defend the purity of definitions - "Outsiderville" is at the very epicenter of a process of institutionalization of outsider art and socio-cultural life of artists who are not limited in thinking and fantasy, unable to be driven "under frameworks", but facing many barriers due to mental disorders.

"Outsiderville" residents are not just "wards", but, above all, beautiful people with an amazing vision of the world. Their creative work and perception of the world is a huge resource for society, and those who are the first to understand this will discover an inexhaustible source of inspiration and opportunities!

When: May 13-27, 2021
Where: bookstore | lecture hall "Vo Ves Golos" ("In Loud Voice"), Mayakovsky St., 19 (metro "Mayakovskaya" or "Chernyshevskaya")

The premiere of "INYE" ("Others") film on the RT Documentary TV channel
RT Documentary has released a film about outsider artists in Russia for an international audience. We were shooting it between 2020 and 2021 together with the RT Documentary crew that did a tremendous job!

It was an exciting period for all of us, especially for the artists: Elizaveta Khudyakova, Sara Hertzman, Elina Doll, Kirill Maltsev, Yuri Vinogradov (whose music became a soundtrack for the film). We thank Outsiderville residents for patience, sincerity, and spontaneity!

In the film production, we collaborated with our long-standing partner, psychotherapist, and INYE collection curator Vladimir Gavrilov that introduced the achievements of many years of his work and presented a unique artist, Andrey Tsymbal.

We thank Oleg Nekishev, the film director, for the delicate approach to the shooting process, deep involvement in the outsider art context, and filming the lively profiles of the artists. We also thank cameramen Sergey Tsyganov and Dmitry Tararako for amazing shots that have created an effect of presence in the film.

Nadya Bokman exhibition "Bokovoe zrenie" ("Side Vision")
We open the "Bokovoe zrenie" ("Side Vision") exhibition of a permanent Outsiderville resident Nadezhda Bokman, at Putilov Loft on April 2nd at 7 pm. The exposition presents more than 60 of Bokman works. At the opening event, a concert of Ilya Tsarev's Psychedelic band, performative mystifications, and other surprises await you.

Nadezhda was born in 1977. At the age of 7, her family moved from Bratsk to Saint-Petersburg. She felt drearily and mundane at school and instead enjoyed spending all day long at a parents' library, reading one book after another. She read Russian and foreign classics, but the most beloved books of the future artists were those concerned with ancient Greek mythology, the Middle ages, and the Renaissance. The parents, who were knowledge workers, supported the interest of their kids and provided the conditions for Nadya and her older brother to develop and fulfill themselves.

She graduated from college as a wood painting artist with honors. However, it was only in 2002 that Nadya began to master drawing techniques and develop her style. She found interest in art thanks to her mother. From her youth, she was fascinated by paintings of Edvard Munch, Francis Bacon, Gustav Klimt, and Obri Beardsley. With time, Bokman lost her parents, steadfastly overcoming the tragedy but never coming to terms with it. The search for a way out of a heavy emotional state became a source of many creative ideas.

Gradually, she gained self-confidence by communicating with other artists, reading art literature, visiting museums and exhibitions, and participating in art projects. Over the 20 years of her art career, her works have been presented at about 30 art exhibitions in Russia and abroad (Denmark, Greece, USA, Sweden, UK).

Nadya creates works with compulsive acrylic paint strokes on canvases, cardboards, and plywoods. Instead of giving names to the paintings, she provides them with poetry. Her style combines naivety and passion, intricacy and openness when the dreaminess of a child suddenly switches to dark infernal fantasy. It is crucial to watch Bokman's works from unusual angles as if you were squinting or peering out of the corner of the everyday cliches. This way, the pits of emotional turmoil can open behind the curtain of childish and naive simplicity.

In a dialogue with the Chaos, full of eroticism and mystery, the artist earnestly, sensually, and sometimes ironically investigates her own but at the same time universal melancholy of the lost Eden Garden. The delight of being and free-flight unites with trauma and repressed will, while personality falls apart in the face of the almighty Universe.

KrivoTolki. The first meeting of the outsider artists discussion club
The first meeting of the "KrivoTolki" discussion club will take place on January 23 at 5 pm. It is a new format for Outsiderville since the participants are residents of the organization. Usually, experts hold conferences, public talks, and discussions for other specialists. Our residents take part in those activities sometimes as well. However, this time they are going to be the organizers, moderators, and speakers.

The world is always changing and broadening its diversity: digitalization, translocality, and transhumanism, new ethics, and commodification of every single thing on earth. The same happens with the boundaries of an outsider art phenomenon. We are still expecting to see naïvity, isolation, and escapism in it. However, the traditional image of an early outsider artist has gone. In the '40s, a radical artist and art-collector Jean Dubuffet introduced the concept of art brut. Thirty years later, Roger Cardinal coined the term outsider art that we use up to this day. However, outsider art has developed many new traits since then. We can observe them in the artworks of our contemporaries who are willing to share their social and mental experience.

Many of them have an in-depth knowledge of outsider art and have their favorite self-taught artists. As outsider artists themselves, they are inclined to reflect on their own artistic experiences. In other words, they are well-aware of the cultural context that they inhabit. Despite this awareness and knowledge of history, they still share a strong feeling of self-identity when following their inner impulses of creativity. These artists are bothered neither by the audience nor the potential success of their artworks.

At the first meeting of our club, we will discuss personal myths, social stigma, outsider artist's position on society, and the art world. Visitors of the event will have an opportunity to ask questions.

Admission is free. The number of seats is limited.

Elina Doll personal exhibition "Flowers Outwards"
The artworks of the "Outsiderville" resident and outsider artist Elina Doll will be presented at the "Flowers Outwards" exhibition at Putilov Loft on January 21.

Elina is a jack of all trades: graphic designer, sculptor, tattooist, toymaker, camerawoman, and a creator of visuals for electronic music of her husband. On an opening day, the couple will perform as Schuschpanzer V8, a music project inspired by many things: Kraftwerk, synthwave, dieselpunk, exploitation films, industrial, post-apocalypse aesthetics, and more.

Creative work helps her overcome the struggle with a society that often does not accept her explicit eccentricity. This conflict forced Elina to isolate from the outside world and fully devote herself to artmaking. She pursues her creative endeavor despite frequent and lingering depressions and physical issues. However, Elina keeps finding like-minded people. For some time, she used to be an actress at The Theater named after "Which" ("Teatr imeni Kotorogo") and sung in a choir. Currently, she takes Scandinavian dancing classes and learns photography. The number of people appreciating her art is constantly growing, partially thanks to successful exhibitions in Russia and abroad, such as Art Brut. Rapprochement, To Catch a Big Fish (2019-2020), and Outsider Art Fair (Atelier Richelieu, Paris, France, 2019).

"I love colors and shapes, dolls, bad weather, electronic music, lego, dancing, reading, letters in paper books, going to movies, tattooing sometimes, I love contrast and brightness, history, bright makeup, unnaturalness, I love foreign languages, Germanic languages, I love cities, industrial structures, multicolored beads, wind, huge stones..."

A series of her latest works call the audience to dialogue with poster-like slogans. In them, there's an attempt to understand oneself and explain the relevance of artmaking in the fate of humanity. "Art is not food or entertainment. Outsider art is like a cryptic diary, like publicly dissected human soul. It is about experiencing with feelings first and only then seeing with eyes.

The exhibition will be held from January 21 to February 4, 2021

Outsiderville collaboration with Bill Traylor's Broshechnaya (`Brooch`)
We are happy to announce the new collaboration between Outsiderville and Bill Traylor's Broshechnaya (`Brooch`)!

We met Kolya and Olesya at the Yura Zeleny exhibition in February. There we realized that we speak the same language and are equally obsessed with what we love. What the two of them make out of wood is a form of art. The fact that they are named after a self-taught artist Bill Traylor only fueled our mutual interest. We had an idea of releasing a series of wooden accessories based on Outisdervilles artists' works. Royalties would go to the artists. The first series of earrings and brooches are dedicated to Illya Tsarev's artworks.

Ilya is a master of playing psychedelic instruments of his imagination. He paints in detail canvases, where light green bats, under the watch of a bloody moon, accompany a Drakkar that rapidly rushes into the kingdom of cloud saxophonists who give the world the music of mirrored acid stripes and wavy flickers. In general, an ordinary Tuesday for an unusual artist. Beyond the rhythms of the colors, you can also get acquainted with Ilya's music. Look for his albums under the pseudonym Acidether on the Outsiderville label.

With love and respect, we introduce a collection of accessories: a toothy brooch, earrings with cosmic waves, and yard guys. They are available for an order at the merch page on our website. Over time, new souvenirs and other decorative items will be available there, so that you could yourself and your loved ones!

Ilya Tsarev's exhibition "In the Shadow of Another World"
On November 21, "In the Shadow of Another World" exhibition of works by a self-taught artist Ilya Tsarev will take place in the Vo Ves' Golos ("In a Loud Voice") bookshop. Ilya was born in Omsk in 1987. Since childhood, he has been involved in various sports. At the age of 21, after graduating from OmGPU's faculty of philosophy and cultural studies, he moved to Saint-Petersburg. There, he started to implement his most intimate creative ideas.

The artist passionately creates complex and detailed works. He's familiar with outsider art, though it doesn't prevent him from expressing his inner experiences. He is influenced by fantasy and esoteric literature, as well as 20th existential prose and antinatalism philosophy.

From 2019, Ilya receives support from Outsiderville as a permanent resident. Since then, he took part in Outsider Art Fair in Paris and Outsider art: Creating the Universe exhibition in the Museum of Russian Lubok and Naive art, being included in the top-30 outsider artists in Russia.

Ilya is an extremely versatile person, an artist in the broad sense of the word. He writes prose, flash fiction, philosophy, plays piano, saxophone, flute, and releases music under the pseudonym acidether. Also, he plays in a band called Psychedelic band. The visitors of the exhibition will get an opportunity to see the live show of the band on an opening day!

Musicians-alchemist from Psychedelic band are Ilya Tsarev (composer, multi-instrumentalist), Andrey Mudrov (oboe, saxophone), and Vlad Termonen (guitar, effects). During the live improvisation, they combine unexpected sounds, hoping to find some new life form and expand the scope of modern avant-garde. They take dadaism out of the dark closet of experimental music and shake off the dust from it.

The premiere of "She is Extraneous" ("Postoronnyaya") documentary film
On September 19, a premiere screening of the long-awaited documentary by Yevgeny Ershov from "Kopilochka" ("Piggy Bank") Production YouTube channel will take place in Moscow. "She is Extraneous" ("Postoronnyaya") is about an artist Sarah Hertzman but, generally, it is a film about each of us.

The film aims to influence people with mental disorders to seek help in artmaking. Also, it dispels stereotypes about mental illness and those who suffer from it. If some of your friends or relatives have mental health issues, do not let them give up, support them, and do not say that they are making up their illnesses. Do not give advice, such as «do some sports, smile more often». Do not let your people around you feel lost.

"Here and Now - Phase III" - we participate at "Art Brut Global" again!
On August 3 started the final stage of the digital exhibition "Art Brut Global - Phase III" has started from the organizers of the "Outsider Art Fair". They offered to represent the street photographer from St. Petersburg - Valentin Simankov from "Outsiderville". In June, we already took part in "Phase II - New Discoveries" with four of our artists - and decided to try our luck again, becoming the only organization from Russia.

"Here and Now" will be held to 24 August and is the third stage, in which features 68 experienced and currently living outsider artists from all over the world, The related fields of Art Brut, Folk Art and Outsider Art are commonly associated with canonical heroes like Eugene Von Bruenchenhein, Aloïse Corbaz, Henry Darger, Thornton Dial, William Edmondson, Martín Ramirez, Judith Scott, Bill Traylor, and Adolf Wölfli. Here and Now brings deserved attention to the current generation of self-taught artists whose radically individualistic visions have propelled them to distinguished careers.

As recognition of self-taught artists has gained traction, and their influence on contemporary art become widely acknowledged, their work has been more regularly exhibited and collected beyond the boundaries of the Outsider world, where it was first discovered and shared publicly.

While many of those featured in Here and Now have been fixtures in the field for decades, like Charles Benefiel, François Burland, JJ Cromer, Donald Mitchell, Winfred Rembert, Ody Saban, Kevin Sampson, Christine Sefelosha, and Domenico Zindato, more recent arrivals on the stage include virtuoso draftsmen like Noviadi Angkasapura, Gil Batle, and M'onma.

"Outsideville" participates at Art Brut Global from Russia!

Last October, we were fortunate enough to participate in the Outsider Art Fair in Paris. This spring, Outsider Art Fair announced the Art Brut Global. It is a three-phase project that includes digital sales and a virtual exhibition with an audience of more than 80,000 people.

The first phase of the project was dedicated to legendary outsider artists. Each participating country presented only one artist (Evgeny Gabrichevsky was represented from Russia). The second phase was called New discoveries and dedicated to modern outsider artists that are already known in the international community.

We are proud to announce that the jury selected four Outsiderville artists: Sergey Fedulov, Mikhail Ardashnikov, Alexander Savchenko, and Ilya Tsarev. From June 18 to July 10, 2020, 35 of their works will be presented together with other 46 artists.

Again, Outsiderville became the only participant from Russia among 29 galleries from all over the world: Antillean, James Barron Art, Henry Boxer Gallery, Norman Brosterman, Chris Byrne, Cavin-Morris Gallery, Andrew Edlin Gallery, Galerie Escale Nomad, The Gallery of Everything, Creative Growth, Galerie Hamer, Marion Harris, HEY! modern art & pop culture Gallery, Hirschl & Adler Modern, Yukiko Koide Presents, Kushino Terrace, Jennifer Lauren Gallery, Galerie Pol Lemétais, Lindsay Gallery, Marlborough, Maroncelli12, Galerie du moineau écarlate, Galerie Polysémie, Portrait Society Gallery, Ricco/Maresca Gallery, SHRINE, Stewart Gallery, Tierra del Sol Gallery.

We are happy with this unprecedented opportunity for our artists to present their artworks to a foreign audience and, possibly, sell some to leading collections and galleries around the world! We value our artists and their works and believe that Russian outsider art will take a worthy place in the international community!

"Outsiderville" launches a label dedicated to outsider music

We launch Out Music Label and invite you to join us!

The art of outsiders, people with mental disabilities, or self-taught artists working outside the professional social institutions is not limited to visual arts. There are outsider poetry, literature, music, and so on. We decided to expand our project and launch a music label to publish, combine, and popularize outsider music. Outsider music isn't necessarily disharmonious, clumsy, raw, or anxious. Just like the experiences and ideas of each artist, it is always different. We are not limited by any particular genre and will be releasing records ranging from krautrock and experimental electronic music to modern classical music.

Since outsider composers, producers, and improvisers are almost excluded from the professional community and have no formal training, they are also not always entirely free from stereotypes and musical clichés. However, we seek to offer them an opportunity to express their independent ideas. The creative process in such type of music becomes a way of overcoming hardships of everyday life or a traumatic experience connected with mental disabilities and stigma. Outsider music is, first of all, an experience of an isolated person aspiring to assert his or her subjectivity by means of music in which he or she finds a reliance. An experience like this is always precious and important for listeners.

You can listen to our releases on the Outsiderville official Bandcamp account.

If you're a musician, don't be afraid to share your music with us. We are open to everything that goes beyond genre conventions and sounds strange or weird. And if you're just a like-minded person who is willing to support the project, contact us!

«Destined for Creativity» exhibition at Oulu Museum of Art

Despite the restrictive measures in the troubled times of the pandemic, this year we managed to join the foreign project and take part in the international exhibition of Finnish colleagues.

From June 2 to September 20, the Oulu Museum of Art hosts the exhibition "Destined for Creativity", organized by our partners and their friends from the world of outsider and contemporary art, dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the institutionalization of ITE art.

"Destined for Creativity" is a cross-section of the art that flourishes in the margins and often still remains an outsider of the art world. The themed sections of the exhibition are platforms of interaction for different forms of art, techniques of expression as well as the continuum of the art form from past to present and their creators' life stories. The works are characterised by bright colours, expressiveness, childlike innocence, manic repetition and rough realism. Typical subjects include animals, depictions of common people, expression of opinion and dreamlike and paradise-like visions. The exhibition takes viewers to the origins of creativity found in European outsider art and ITE art, and it shows the art audience paths through which individual works and stories become part of a larger narrative. Guests from the field of contemporary art from Iceland, Scotland and Finland have been invited to join the journey.

One of the most fascinating features of ITE art is how artists overcome the challenges of using unorthodox materials. Don't expect concrete to show the delicateness of plaster casting, and the tin in the drink can was not intended to turn into a sculpture. The brutality and clumsiness of ITE art is all about primordial creativity, the power of which is the envy of other types of contemporary art. Despite the vast range of materials that it uses, ITE art has a wooden heart. Wood carving is a skill that combines tradition with artistic imagination. The exhibition also shows how marvellous the outcome can be when textile craftsmanship is guided by wild creativity and a passion for self-expression!

Contemporary ITE lives among us and gives us hints of the future. The uniquely individual men and women of rural areas now have fellow artists in urban environments, where creativity continues to explore new horizons – as self-confident and open-minded as ever.

The exhibition "Destined for Creativity" was attended by 30 artists from Finland, Norway, UK, Finland, Netherlands, Scotland, France, Austria and other countries. The "Outsiderville" team is immensely pleased to represent the artist from Russia, St. Petersburg artist and resident Neuropsychiatric Boarding No. 7 - Juri Kozlov, whose work are brightly presented on display.

Congratulations to our Finnish colleagues on the anniversary of ITE Taide, and also thanks for genuine and lively interest in Russian outsider art!

"VechnoZeleny" exhibition of Yura Zeleny's works

On February 14, an exhibition of Yura Zeleny's works called "VechnoZeleny" ("Forever Zeleny") will be held at "Vo Ves' Golos" ("In a loud voice") bookstore.

Yura is a self-taught artist who drew for all his life, despite the physical limitations. Since childhood, his mischievous hooligan character got along with curiosity. Perhaps these character traits helped him to learn himself to read and write as well as self-educate by watching the world cinema classics. He was the first graduate of the famous Pavlovsky orphanage for children with developmental disabilities. Yura spent many years in a wheelchair due to congenital cerebral palsy, but this did not prevent him from picking up a brush and a pencil. Crumpled, torn, and damp sheets were put up in bags for construction waste and found several years ago in a closet. A huge number of paintings has accumulated. Volunteers of the public organization organized his first personal exhibition when he was 65. This year, the artist and a permanent "resident" of Zelenogorsk psycho-neurological boarding house celebrates his 70th anniversary. Despite the impressive age, Yura Zeleny remains an incredibly charming, smiling, and charismatic person!

For five years, Yura have had several personal and collective exhibitions in Russia and abroad: at Naive Art Museum, Russian Museum, Kaliningrad Museum of Fine Arts, Borey and ArtNaiv galleries, and at many other sites. His works are held in domestic and international collections, galleries, and museums, such as Museum of Naive and Marginal Art (Jagodina, Serbia), Escale Nomad (Paris, France), Galerie Polysémie (Marseille, France), Copenhagen Outsider Art Gallery (Copenhagen, Denmark), La Fabuloserie (Dicy, France), Kondas Centre (Viljandi, Estonia) and others. Yura's life path has long been proof that neither the walls of a closed institution nor heredity can become an obstacle to self-expression, communication, and recognition!

The exhibition will be held from 14 to 28 February 19, Mayakovskogo st. The admission is free!

Exhibition of iconic outsider artists from the USSR and Russia "Outsider art: creating the Universe"

From November 14 to December 22, 2019, the exhibition of iconic outsider artists from the USSR and Russia "Outsider art: creating the Universe" will be held at the Museum of Russian Lubok and Naive Art.

For the general public, outsider art was a "zone of silence" throughout the entire Soviet period. Most often, artifacts equivalent to art brut were labeled as "the creativity of the insane". At the turn of '90s, the outsider art phenomenon becomes more relevant, as the ideological pressure disappeared. It led to the emergence of many public initiatives, exhibitions, publications, and, finally, the institutionalization of outsider art in Russia. We keep vivid impressions of relics of the past, such as works of Alexander Lobanov, Mikhail Kalyakin, Fedor Smirnov... We enthusiastically recall Pavel Leonov and Vasily Romanenkov and admire the unique "experience" of our contemporaries: Alex Khatkevich, Alexei Sakhnov...

Curators Vladimir Gavrilov (INIE collection, Yaroslavl), Olga Fominykh ("Outsiderville", Saint-Petersburg), and Sergey Belov (Museum of Russian Lubok and Naive art ) exhibit only a fragment of the immense "universe" of outsider art myth-making, trying to minimize the impact of various types of creativity by self-taught artists: art-therapy, the art of the insane, self-taught or naive art...

We have interviewed 16 experts to compile a list of 30 unique outsider artists. It is important to note that curators do not claim that these artists are the best ones. Maybe, they are just the most famous for the moment. It depends on collectors, art-dealers, activists, and connoisseurs. However, we have achieved great results and gathered information about the most interesting domestic authors, whom we consider significant artists. One thing is certain: viewers are going to experience unique and unexpected discoveries! The exhibition project is designed as a series of stories that reveal new names...

You can get acquainted with the project and the artists on our website: http://outsider-art.ru/creatingtheuniverse

The opening is on November 14, at 17.30.
The address: 30, Izmailovsky Boulevard, Moscow (Pervomayskaya metro station).
Free admission!

"Outsiderville" at Outsider Art Fair Paris 2019

This year, "Outsiderville" is the only Outsider Art Fair participant from Russia.

Founded by Sanford Smith in 1993, Outsider Art Fair is held annually in New York. Since 2013, after moving to Wide Open Arts led by Andrew Edlyn, it is also held in the French capital.

It was a long and cherished dream of the Outsiderville team to participate in OAF. The fair is a kind of a place of pilgrimage for many outsider art organizations. Becca Hoffman, the director of the fair, was impressed by Outsiderville's sociocultural projects and artists at the conference at the European Association of Outsiders Art in Stockholm in May. She offered us to participate under special conditions, taking into account the socially significant mission of the organization, the scale of activity and the number of talented authors that we support regularly.

What tasks does our participation in OAF Paris 2019 help to fulfil? First, works of many artists will be presented at the international level for the first time and will have a chance to appear at leading outsider art galleries and collections. Second, our artists will be able to receive decent fees as a confirmation of the importance of their art. This will help to solve the financial difficulties and acquire new art materials to continue the creative work.

Also, the INIE collection will be presented. It is the biggest collection of Russian outsider art curated by Vladimir Gavrilov — our partner and mentor, psychotherapist, and outsider art researcher.

Thus, Russian outsider art will be presented on the international level and, possibly, will reach new heights in the art world. We sincerely hope for recognition, emergence of new projects, and cooperation with foreign partners.

Good luck to us and recognition to the artists!

The first outsider art exhibition "Other dimensions" in Kazan

On October 10 at 19:00, we open, probably, the first outsider art exhibition in Kazan called "Other dimensions"!

The best works of outsider-artists from the Volga region will be presented at the "Shtab" creative industry residence from 10 to 24 October, as a part of the V Festival of rehabilitation programs for people with mental disabilities "Drugie? («Others»)".

The exposition consists of artworks collected within the "Art-expedition" project that was held by "Outsiderville" with the support of the The Union for Mental Health. For seven months, the expedition team visited 14 regions of the Volga Federal District to study inclusive and art-therapeutic practices at psychiatric institutions, public and cultural organizations as well as the creative capabilities of people with mental disabilities, including independent representatives of outsider art, self-taught and naive artists.

Outsider art is a term that encompasses artists who usually have no art training and, thus, not thinking about their potential viewers or some art standards. They create authentically, exclusively for themselves, being on the margins of various social groups, systems, and cultures, experiencing the influence of conflicting norms and values. These artists create unique works of art free of any aesthetic, ethic, or socio-political stereotypes and receive an emotional response from visitors of international exhibitions and the most demanding collectors.

The public will be able to see the works of more than 20 independent outsider artists. We only begin to study, comprehend, define outsider art in Russia, and search for new approaches in using the "medical" properties of art. Perhaps this is the first exhibition of outsider art in Tatarstan...

October 10, 19:10.
20, Tatarstan st.

Free admission, pre-registration is required: https://shtab.timepad.ru/event/1081299

"Eclipse and Shine". Exhibition of paintings by self-taught artist Alexander Savchenko

From August 1st to September 16th the exhibition "Alexander Savchenko. "Eclipse and Shine"" organized by "Outsiderville" will take place in the Russian Lubok and Naïve Art Museum's "Narodnye kartiny" exhibition hall. Meeting with Alexander Savchenko is always full of inexplicable magic. Like some mysterious wanderer, he takes out of his travel bag either some surprising and unique paintings or fascinating stories of his intricate fate.

Alexander was born in 1956 in the Kugnur city in Perm oblast' and a year later his family moved to Veliky Novgorod. Since childhood, he stood out among peers, demonstrated exemplary behavior and outstanding abilities. In school, he was a curator of sports classes, a standard-bearer, a leader in army squad as well as in "Orlyonok" children center and "Young friend of the police" organization. Later he was a secretary of komsomol organization. Alexander helped slow learners, skydived and attended many clubs... Due to excessive loads, his health deteriorated at a very young age... He began to paint at the age of 12 but 2 years later he started to work at "Transvit" factory and various other companies as a supervisor and technical equipment fixer... After a while, a creative urge began to break into the ordinary life of a hard worker. So Alexander entered a college and studies at the theater directing department. He was not interested in drama, so he finds a job as a restorer at a museum of wooden architecture.

Throughout his entire life, he found ways to prove himself. He read and wrote poetry, took part in the "literary associations", was a semi-professional skier and boxer, attended Yuriev monastery and a skete as a novice...
Despite his great and respectable age, vision problems and financial difficulties, the artist regularly travels from Veliky Novgorod to Petersburg by train to show his paintings to the public. Sitting modestly on a square near the Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood Alexander intently examines passersby. Some of them stop by big canvases made out of thick paper сovered with dense strokes of oil paints. Some are interested but lack the courage to buy these lubok paintings that are unusual in comparison to the classical ones which are mainly aimed for tourists. However, quite rarely some manage to distinguish a talent of the real naive artist and buy a painting or two. Mostly they buy them for nothing.

Although he is 63 years old, Alexander does not doubt that one day his paintings will end up in Louvre...We hope that his most intimate "Shine" will happen before the inevitable "Eclipse"...

We invite you to the opening of the exhibition on August 1st (Thursday) at 17.00 at Izmaylovsky boulevard, 30. The author himself will open the event.
"Outsiderville" will speak at EOA conference E-Quality 2019 in Stockholm

We are going to the European Association of Outsider Art conference "EOA conference E-Quality 2019" from 24 to 26 May in Stockholm.

"Outsiderville" is the only representative from Russia this year. In the "Outsider art in Russia. The role of sociocultural projects" presentation Olga Fominykh will try to give the most comprehensive picture of the Russian outsider art. Its specifics include controversial and surprising processes, some of which are influenced by the international art community, and local organizations that support self-taught artists in many ways, both with social issues and exhibition projects.

The first host is INUTI studio in Stockholm that works with talented people with intellectual disabilities and people with autism at four of their venues. They work under the guidance of professional artists in various mediums, such as painting, sculpture, textiles, graphics, photos, installations, and performances. The second one is Aguélimuseet in Sala, the permanent collection of which was collected by Dr. Karl Friberg.

The conference is intended for artists, curators, and collectors, as well as representatives of museums, galleries, collections, art projects, and studios. This year we discuss questions of inclusion, quality, and equality in outsider art. For members of the Association, which celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2019, it is an opportunity to exchange experience with colleagues, create joint projects and get acquainted with new names in the world of outsider art.

From February to May, a delegation of experts will visit 14 cities of the Volga Federal District to study art-therapeutic practices and creative resources of people with mental disabilities, including amateur and outsider artists. The expedition members will familiarize with art-therapeutic methods implemented in studios at rehabilitation departments of psychiatric hospitals, psychoneurological dispensaries, and nursing homes, non-commercial art centers concentrating in visual arts.

As part of the "Art expedition", educational activities will be held to improve the quality of art therapy practices and develop interregional sociocultural initiatives. Thus, it is planned to create a network of art therapy centers that will contribute to the psychosocial rehabilitation and socialization of people with mental disabilities. The best works of outsider artists from Volga Federal District will be presented at the unique "Another Dimensions" art exhibition, which will be held on October 9, 2019, in Kazan as part of the V Festival of rehabilitation programs for people with mental disabilities "Others?".

Exhibition of a linocut artist Shankar Baradat

On February 10, at 7:00 pm, "Outsiderville" and the "Simple Things" inclusive workshops invite you to the opening of an exhibition of works by an original artist Oleg Korovin, better known as Shankar Baradat who is working in the original linocut technique.

Oleg was born on September 7, 1979, in the city of Podporozhye in Leningrad Region. He studied at an art school, later at a lyceum to become a woodcarver and at the Russian State Pedagogical University of A.I. Herzen for three years to pursue an art-teacher profession. He is fond of extreme sports (snowboarding, downhill skiing, mountaineering), oriental spiritual teachings, photography, and street art.

His first psychiatric experience occurred in 2008 after a 10-day "Vipassana" meditation, when he found out he has a bipolar affective disorder. He is open about it and even learned to use it as a creative resource. The artist has always been attracted by a new experience and a search for answers to the most difficult existential questions.

Oleg never stops in a spiritual and artistic journey, he attends courses at the Academy of Arts, participates in the Russian Museum and "Outsiderville" joint program on art-mediation, and takes part in regional and All-Russian exhibitions.

Art critics note that linocut is a technique used by artists whose work is expressive, concise and contrast. Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Frans Maserel, Fritz Bleil, Sybil Andrews, Angel Botelho, Valenti Angelo, Hans Eschenborn used it in their time ... Extraordinary delivery together with a boundless imagination gives rise to incomprehensible worlds of Shankar.

Cheval Palace and Faboulozri Museum. Brut Cinema Project

On the first Sunday of February, we keep on our Brut Cinema Project screenings with documentary films translated by "Outsiderville" specifically for the Russian audience.

This time we are watching 2 stunning films about eccentric craftsmen who conquer the nature elements: "The Ideal Palace of the Postman Cheval" (Ado Kyrou, 1958) and "Excursion to Faboulozri" (Stefan Jean-Baptiste, 1998).

The first is a simple provincial postman Ferdinand Cheval who manually built a divine palace out of stones, wires, and cement. He has also left a message to his descendants: "Humanity, remember that you are only dust, only your soul is immortal" ... The second one is a shepherd Little Pierre who created a wonderful carousel with touching figures made out of a painted tin. The carousel was a starting point for the whole amusement park constructed with fabulous mechanisms, which later grew into an extraordinary open-air museum and a gallery with a huge outsider art collection.

Outsider art is "a realm of exceptions, an invention, a dream. It is a mirror of art. Art inhabited by spirits, magic, beyond the established procedures and rules!"

LOUD WORLD ! KOVA MAAILMA»
LOUD WORLD ! KOVA MAAILMA».

(Lilya Nowikowa).

Studio ~6
